Pete “Put” Shambro, a tile contractor and life-long resident of Monroe, LA, passed away on Monday, July 9, 2018, at the age of 93.
Pete is survived by his children; son, Tim Shambro and wife Kelly, and daughter, Christina Shambro; grandchildren, Anthony Shambro, Alex Shambro and wife Brittney, Kristen Shambro, and Allison Shambro; great grandchildren, Sierra and Winston Shambro; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Antonio and Angilena Muocbutta Shambro; his brothers, Nick, Collie, Sam and Charlie; his sisters, Frances and Josephine; and his granddaughter, Lauren.
Pete, a first-generation Italian-American, was born in Monroe on January 19, 1925. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he was awarded three Bronze Stars for his service in both Europe and the Pacific.
Pete was a loving father and an avid fisherman and he enjoyed playing cards and dominos with his friends and family. He was a devout Catholic and involved in many church activities and was most proud of his work in support of the annual St. Joseph’s Day activities at St. Joseph Catholic Church in south Monroe. Pete was known as a real character and could always put a smile on anyone’s face. He will be deeply missed by his friends, family and all who knew and loved him.
The family would like to thank the nurses and caregivers at the NELA War Veterans Home as well as the staff of Heart of Hospice for the love and care given to Pete during his final days. Another special thank you to Jennifer Correro Lorts and to Mr. Roberts for the love shown to Pete over the last several years.
Visitation will be held at Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe, LA, on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, July 12, 2018, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Monroe with Rev. Mark Franklin officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe, LA.
