Pauline Northam Holloway

November 15, 1922 — May 2, 2017

Pauline Northam Holloway
Mrs. Pauline Northam Holloway, 94, of Monroe, LA, passed away peacefully at her home after lengthy illness on Tuesday, May 2, 2017 in Monroe. Visitation will be Friday, May 12 from 500 p.m. to 700 p.m. at Mulhearn Funeral Home on Sterlington Road in Monroe. Her funeral services will be held Saturday, May 13, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home’s chapel, with Rev. Lynn Malone officiating. Interment will follow thereafter at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church, 798 LA-552, Downsville, LA, (Phone: (318) 982-5288), under the direction of Mulhearn.

Pauline worked in Birmingham for the Department of Defense during WWII. She met her late husband, Mr. William Harvey (Bill) Holloway, Jr., in Birmingham, Alabama in 1946 and got married in 1948. After moving to Green Bay and later to Alexandria, Louisiana, they had lived in the Twin Cities since the early 1950s where they raised three sons, Robert, Steve and Tommy Holloway. She was a devote Christian and member of the West Monroe and Monroe First United Methodist Churches since 1954. She taught at FUMC Collins Sunday School Class, and was active in the Republican Party, the Women’s Club, and Glenwood Hospital Auxiliary.
She was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable gardener, a prolific, constant reader of novels (she always had 3 or 4 going), an expert bridge player, the best cruciverbalist (solver of any and all crossword puzzles) we have ever known, and a firm believer in the Puritan work ethic and the value of hard work, both hers and yours. She was known to be a perfectionist in whatever she did and only a job truly done right received her praise. She was the core of her sons’ lives, and will be missed greatly and never forgotten.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Franklin and Dizanie Palmer Northam of Hamilton, Alabama; brothers, Aubrey and John; sisters Annie Mae, Birdie, Maude, and Ruth; and, her husband, Bill Holloway; Survivors include her sister, Nellie Tuck of Haleyville, Alabama; sons, Robert Holloway and his wife Kathy, Steve Holloway and his wife Lauri, and Tommy Holloway and his wife Elizabeth; along with grandsons, granddaughters and numerous great grandchildren.

Pallbearers will include her sons, Robert, Steve and Tommy; and her grandsons, Clint Holloway, Blake Holloway, Joel Chevalier, Jeremy Coon and Shane Carroll.

The family wishes to extend their special thanks to Mrs. Pam Prine, a wonderful caregiver, who provided thoughtful and personal care to Pauline during her final weeks.

In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or your local Salvation Army.
