Funeral Services for Mr. Paul David Holton, 65, of West Monroe, LA will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, August 29, 2009 at Peniel Baptist Church with Bro. Leonard Garlington and Bro. Dale Mercer officiating. Interment will follow at Kilpatrick Serenity Gardens Cemetery with Bro. Eddie Shoemaker and Bro. Bobby White officiating.

Mr. Holton was born October 17, 1943 in Pioneer, LA and passed away on August 26, 2009 in West Monroe, LA. On August 30th, he would have celebrated 46 years of marriage with his high school sweetheart, Nancy. Pop’s pride and joy were his five grandchildren, who he loved very much. Mr. Holton was a faithful deacon and member of Peniel Baptist Church and his Men’s Sunday School Class. He enjoyed working in his workshop. He loved to sing and play his guitar and especially enjoyed traveling to bluegrass festivals. Mr. Holton was a longtime member of IBEW local 446 and UAW local 1977.

He is survived by the love of his life, his “Gal”, Nancy Williams Holton; daughters, Kimberly Holton Mercer and husband Dale, Ginger Holton Myers and husband Keith; grandsons, Jonathan Dale Mercer, Samuel Edward Mercer and David Wayne Myers; his “favorite 10-year-old granddaughter” Olivia Rose Myers and his “favorite 9-year-old granddaughter” Elizabeth Anne Mercer; brothers, J. W. Holton and wife June, Ray Holton and wife Mary, Jimmy Holton and wife Sherry; sisters, Helen Washington and husband Joe, Betty Brohan, Mary Ann Tucker and husband Van, Sharon Newman and husband Larry; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; longtime best friends, Herschel McGraw and Frank Ellis and host of friends and church family.

He is preceded in death by parents, Merline and J. Y. Holton, brother, Charles Franklin Holton and sister, Barbara Jean Holton.

He fought a long and courageous battle with lung cancer and was an inspiration to everyone he met. The family would like to thank Dr. Ron Hammett, Dr. Scott Barron and all the wonderful nurses and staff who cared for him as well as the faithful friends and family who ministered to us during his illness.

Pallbearers will be his eldest grandson, Jonathan Mercer, and nephews, Dennis Holton, Jay Holton, Eric Holton, Woodie Funderburk, Ricky Eads, Anthony Newman and Sean Newman. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Gibson, Dean Williamson, Bobby White, Lane Vance, Sean Rogers, Adam Bricker, and the Adult Men’s Sunday School Class and deacons at Peniel Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday, August 28, 2009 at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe.
