Funeral services for Lt. Colonel Patton Dunning McHenry, Jr., Retired CAP/USAF, 73, of Monroe, will be held at 3:00 PM Friday, October 12, 2018, at Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel with Rev. Whit Stodghill officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe. Visitation will be from 2:00 PM until service time Friday at the Mausoleum Chapel.

Patton Dunning McHenry, Jr. was born February 22, 1945, at St. Francis Medical Center in Monroe, LA, to Lt. Col. Patton Dunning McHenry, Sr. and Lula Vivian Rawls McHenry. He was predeceased by his grandparents, Rupert Leon McHenry, Sr., PhD Pharmacy and Bessie Murrel Dunning McHenry, PhD Music. His mother was the daughter of Norman Randolph Rawls and Lula Fannie Thomas Rawls.

Survivors include a very close bonded friend, Barbara Jean Rhone of Monroe, LA, daughter of Robert Franklin Rhone and Margaret Johnson Rhone. Family survivors include his former wife, Carolyn Sue Parker McHenry of West Monroe, LA, daughter of William Otis Parker and Mary Elizabeth Curl Parker; two sons, Brian David McHenry of West Monroe and his wife Tabitha Jean Hoag McHenry, Brandon Lance “Hamzah” McHenry of Singapore, Republic of Singapore, and his wife Rosanna Binet Abdul Razak McHenry; grandchildren, Sarah Aisha Binet, Hamzah McHenry, and Adam Zulgarnain Bin Hamzah McHenry of Singapore, Republic of Singapore.

Lt. Col. McHenry was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Monroe, Asbury United Methodist Church, and Ordained Priest of the Latter-Day Saints.

He joined the U.S. Air Force as an E-2 and retired in 2012 as a Lt. Colonel in the CAP/USAF as an Aerospace Education Officer 16019 Squadron. Mr. McHenry became a Real Estate Broker, McHenry Realty and Construction from 1966-1990. He was an Assistant City Engineer of Monroe, LA. He retired from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development as a Water Resources Technician III, over two State Districts, Monroe District 05 nine parishes, and Wisner District 58 six parishes.

Mr. McHenry showed a very quiet philanthropic nature for Education and the Arts as a Loyal Patron and Board of Director Member of the Strauss Theatre, Inc. on Lamy Lane in Monroe. Mr. McHenry was elected and served several times as a member of the Democratic Executive Committee. He was a Perpetual Life member of the following: The Royal Order of Scotland and also a Descendant of Robert “the Bruce” 20th Grandfather; a 32nd Degree Mason; Monroe Scottish Rite; National Sojourners, Inc.: MIP #19700 Vice President Beauregard-Anderson Chapter #530: Alexandria, LA; a York Rite Mason; Lodges: Western Star Lodge No. 24, Monroe; Eros Lodge, No. 265, Eros, LA; Worshipful Master 2017; a Noble Ambassador of the Barak Shrine Temple; Royal Arch Chapter No. 18; Cryptic Council No. 8; Knight Tempalar, Commandery No. 7; Order of the Eastern Star, Louise McGuire Chapter No. 4 elected Worthy several times; Dixie Chapter No. 169, Monroe. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 13, Forsythe Avenue, Monroe, LA.

Mr. McHenry was a member of the ULM High 12 Club Vice-President and enjoyed working at numerous sporting events at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. He took pride in being a member of the Supreme Lodge and serving twice as Supreme Deputy Chancellor Commander for the Knight of Pythias and President of Stone Wall Lodge, Number Eight, and Past Grand Chancellor Commander for the Domain of Louisiana, Knights of Pythias, also a Member Domain of Texas, member of the Dramatic Order Knights of Khorasan, with the rank of Imperial Prince. He served on the Board of Directors of Stonewall Investment, Inc., Monroe, LA. He was appointed and served as Local Secretary for American Mensa Ltd.; a genius level High I.Q. 98 percental organization in Louisiana; charter member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Monroe; Colonel on the Staff of Governor Edwin W. Edwards as Aide De Camp Governors Staff; Honorary Louisiana State Senator, former Boy Scout of America, Scout Master and Explorer Post Advisor, Post 18; awarded a PhD in Commissioner Science in Istrouma Area Council of B.S.A., Baton Rouge Eagle Scout; helped bring Wood Badge (Adult Eagle Scout Rank) to Camp T. L. James in Union Parish, LA; and Former President of Delta Sigma High School Fraternity.

Mr. McHenry was a Forensic Genealogist and a Genealogist for the National Society Sons of the American Revolution, Benjamin Tennille Chapter; and speaker on Forensic Genealogy and DNA. He assisted many ladies in becoming a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and researched Family Ancestry of all the Presidents of the United States. Mr. McHenry was an Eighth Grandson of at least eighteen Revolutionary War Patriots: John McHenry of Virginia; John Scott, and sixteen other patriots. He traced his personal heritage to: John Lackland Plantagenet, King of England; First Common Grand Father of 43 of our 45 United States Presidents; then Charlemagne, born in 742 AD, Emperor of the Western Holy Roman Empire; Robert “The Bruce”, King of Scotland. He wrote a book on “The Retrospection of the C.S.S. Alabama” in 1966 and drew house plans for his residence at age sixteen.

Honorary pallbearers will be the Masons of Western Star Lodge No. 24, Eros Lodge 265, Scottish Rite, Nobles of the Barak Shrine Center of Monroe, and Members of American Legion, Post 13.

We believe Mr. McHenry was one of many fine individuals who have come and gone. Patton McHenry has shown great wisdom philanthropic sharing for education, the Arts and many other mankind helping ways. He will be greatly missed by those who he helped and knew him well as a thinking man and leader.

Now, Rest in Peace with Ancestors and God.
