Patricia (Patsy) Cooper Lewis
Mrs. Patricia (Patsy) Cooper Lewis was born on April 18, 1941, in Mobile, Alabama and passed from this earth to her heavenly home on January 25, 2021, after a battle with colon cancer the last 3 years. Patsy, along with her parents, Q.T. and Mildred Cooper and brother Gary Cooper moved to Monroe, LA, when she was 9 years old when her dad went to work for then Brown Paper Mill in West Monroe.
Patsy drove a school bus for 19 years for Monroe City Schools and took early retirement to baby sit her first grandson from the time he left the hospital until he reached school age. She subsequently kept 2 of her 3 remaining grandchildren for the same timeframe. She said numerous times there was never a day that she did not want to get up and go to their house to keep them. She continued to watch and enjoy each of them as they all grew to be young adults. Patsy loved watching all of her grandkids playing sports, summer baseball, travel baseball, soccer and basketball. She and her husband traveled to Cooperstown, New York to watch a one-week tournament of baseball with one of their grandsons. Patsy never met a stranger and would hold a conversation with anyone for as long as they were willing to listen. She loved all her friends and cherished the times she spent with them. She was at home and surrounded by her family and friends when she passed, just how she would have wanted it.
Patsy was a member of Lea Joyner United Memorial Methodist Church and the Missions Sunday School Class.
Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, Q.T. and Mildred Cooper; sister, Edwina Black of Mobile, Alabama; and her brother, Gary Cooper of Boca Raton, Florida.
