Funeral services for Orville D. Matney, 88, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 2:00 PM, Wednesday, June 13, 2018, at North Monroe Baptist Church, with Dr. Bill Dye, Rev. Joey Young, and Rev. Ralph Neighbor officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Mr. Matney was born November 6, 1929 in Osawatomie, Kansas, and passed away June 9, 2018 in Monroe, Louisiana. Orville was a member of North Monroe Baptist Church, very active in church missions, and a deacon at West Memorial Baptist Church in Houston. Orville owned and operated Southern Management Associates. He served in the U.S. Army. Orville loved his family and traveling.
Mr. Matney was preceded in death by his parents, Oren Thorval Matney and Dorothy Andre Henness Matney; and brother, Merle Matney.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Lois Kohlenberg Matney; daughter, Lori Matney Young (Joey) of Monroe, LA; son, Greg Matney (Marla) of Brookshire, TX; 3 grandchildren, Andrew Bailey Young (Laura), Christopher Jordan Young (Emily), and Nicholas Tucker Young and fiancée, Bailey Sistrunk; 1 great granddaughter, Camille Catherine Young, and one on the way; brother, Larry Matney (Janet) of Lenexa, KS; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many special friends.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Young, Christopher Young, Nicholas Young, Jim Goldman, Tom Causey, and Mike Smith. Honorary pallbearer will be Don Beach.
Visitation will be 12:00 PM until service time, Wednesday, at the church.
