Orie Gene was born on September 23, 1938, to Jimmie and Orie Lee Morris on Turkey Creek in Franklin Parish. His determination to work together was instilled at birth, as he was born into a large and growing family. He was the fifth-born of his nine siblings: Charles, Helen, Elaine, John, Betty, Virginia, Ted, Brenda, and Joe. Mitchell Ridge became the final place the Morris family called home, and Orie Gene became invested with farming the land. This began a lifelong career.
On November 25, 1960, Orie Gene married Lillian Ann Kee at Boeuf River Baptist Church. This union began his inspiration to love deeply with the building of their family of boys: Jeffery Todd, Timothy Gene, Christopher Brian, and Nathaniel Lee. The family was set to quickly grow with the addition of daughters-in-laws: Lori, Sheila, Andrea, and Annie.
The dedication to leave a legacy was extended when Orie Gene and Ann had their first grandchild. This legacy of love was unhindered and unbridled in his passion to be involved with his grandchildren’s lives on all occasions. Many gifts of love and words of encouragement were imparted upon Dustin Kee, Emily Suann, Amanda Rae, Patrick O’Neal, Cameron Gene, Kelsey RaeAnn, Peyton Spencer, Olivia Marie, Orie O’Briant, Linda Claire, Lillian Leigh, Walter David, Samuel Vincent, Benjamin Kee, and Jesse Lynn. Further growth was enjoyed as they witnessed the grandchildren’s marriage additions of Ashley, Lee, Jake, Savannah, Monica, Andrew, Reed, Emily, and Drew.
A culmination of joy and happiness embraced with fondness and adoration with the birth of Orie Gene and Ann’s first great-grandchild. His love of children was evident in his eager desire to see the latest updated picture, hold the newest born baby, and watch the children play at every occasion. Addie Lee, Kimber Todd, Audrey Kee, Ralph Lee “Rafe,” Andie Rae, Jeffery Todd, Grace Lorin, Jacob Riggs, Jude Benson, James Wyatt, Emma Claire, Preston O’Neal, Henry Phillip, Jane Lillian, George Andrew, Rhett Morris, Ellie Kate, Luke Browning, Oliver Louis, George Alexander, Rawls Drury, Lillian Camille, and those to be born are these blessed great-grandchildren.
Having raised his family to believe in eternal salvation through Jesus Christ, his family gathered around to witness Orie Gene’s passing into eternal life on December 15, 2021. Seeking to remember the greatness of a life well lived, Ann now gathers Papa’s “silver and gold” of family that he left behind. This is the treasure of a lifetime invested in his family. He will forever be remembered for his determination, inspiration, and dedication that culminated in love.
