Nola June Hearn June Hearn was born May 21, 1933 during the Depression era of the 20th Century. Growing up, June saw all the marvels of the budding era. She and her sister, Bobbie, would run home every day from school to pull the chains on the lights newly wired throughout the house. It would be months before those lights finally sparked with illumination. The foresting communities of Jonesboro and Chatham provided a simple life for June. She spent her days accompanying her father to town and making fishing trips to Seven Run Creek. A neighbor converted his late model Ford truck into a school bus, adding a wooden cab to the truck bed. In the winter or bad weather, he would drop off and pick up June and seven other children so they would not have a cold and soggy walk. June eventually would travel the country and parts of Canada after marrying Ed Hearn. Ed would join the Air Force shortly after they married and soon the vagabond life of a military family began. Ed, June and their growing family would travel from coast to coast as Ed moved up through the ranks. Their final move to Alaska was made in true frontier style with their sedan loaded down with three boys and pulling all their possessions behind them in a camper. When the trip was started, the road to Alaska was only two lanes and covered in gravel. June swore when it was time to return she would fly, and she did. Upon returning to Monroe, they bought their first home and had their fourth and final son. When all the boys were in school, June went to work at Montgomery Wards. Helping the ladies of Northeast Louisiana dress their windows in the latest fashion was fulfilling and she enjoyed the camaraderie of her coworkers. June’s true passions were her grandchildren, reading, crossword puzzles and trips to Fred’s and the Dollar Store. Buying little surprises for “her precious angels” brought her joy. June was a loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed. We take comfort in knowing she is rejoicing on high, just like all her favorite gospel songs said she would. The family would like to send a special thank you to Evelyn Griffith, June’s partner in crime, best friend and caregiver. They passed the day watching their “stories”, laughing, talking and cooking up all their favorite meals. June’s world was brighter because of Evelyn. We would also like to thank everyone at Medistar Home Health and especially Donna, Patty, Kayla and our favorite friend Mary.
