Neva Katheryn Gilliland, of Monroe, LA, passed away after a lengthy illness at the age of 67. She leaves behind her husband of 38 years, David; her mother, Neva O’Brien Brewer; daughter, Kristen Michele Patton (Raymond) all of Monroe; son, Travis Wade Gilliland (M’Haley Smith) of Farmerville; grandchildren, Neva Kaitlyn, Courtney, Rodney and Haleigh Patton, Stormie McCarter, Paul Michael, Clover and Gracelyn Gilliland; two great-grandchildren, Colston Patton and Aliyah Lewis; sisters, Michele Cross (Garry), Renee Hays (Richard); brother, Charles Brewer (Tina); and numerous nieces and nephews she loved as her own.
Kathy, as we all knew her, or Nanny was loved by everyone who knew her, and she will be deeply missed by us all. Her life has been plagued by many years of illness and even though our heart is broken we celebrate her passing with relief that there is no more suffering or sorrow. At the time of her passing, she was a resident of the Ouachita Healthcare and Rehabilitation where she was able to make new friends and family.
Originally from Montgomery, AL, Kathy moved to the Monroe area in 1975. She retired from the University of Louisiana at Monroe where she worked for Project Talent Search helping young students find their career path after high school. Something she very much enjoyed. There was never a child she wouldn’t help.
We will celebrate her life Saturday, May 11, 2019, at 10:00 AM at St Marks United Methodist Church on Lincoln Rd in Monroe.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you donate to American Lung Associate or St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in her memory.
