Funeral services for Nellie Ruth Brooks Graham, 87, will be held on Sunday, April 26, 2009, at 2:00 PM at Lakeshore Baptist Church with Rev. William Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Nellie was born on January 1, 1922 in Monroe, LA. She passed away on April 24, 2009 at St. Francis Specialty Hospital in Monroe after a brief illness. She was one of 3 children born to Tom and Myrtis Brooks.
Nellie attended Ouachita Parish High School and was a graduate of Northeast Louisiana State College in 1939. She married Harry B. Graham in 1947 and celebrated 54 years of marriage prior to his death in 2001.
Harry and Nellie resided in Monroe their entire married life. Nellie was a homemaker and mother to their two sons, Larkin and Gary. Nellie was a member of the Lakeshore Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the St. Francis Hospital Pink Lady volunteer organization. Nellie was an avid sports fan and long time supporter of ULM and LSU athletics and the Monroe Youth Baseball Association.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry; and her two brothers, Vernon and Tommy Brooks.
Survivors include her children, Larkin Mulhearn and his wife Donna, and Gary Graham and his wife Beverly; her grandson, Dr. Jeremy Graham; and two step grandsons, Hutton and Harrison Banks.
Pallbearers are Walter Pierron, Jim Brooks, Jim Slaughter, Sonny Tarpley, Hutton Banks, and Harrison Banks. Honorary pallbearers are Dan McDuff and J. E. Tripp.
Visitation will be Saturday, April 25, 2009, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
The family would like to thank the dedicated nursing and medical staff at St. Francis for their heartfelt care in the last days of her life. Nellie also wanted to thank the good people at Avalon Place and Azalea Estates for making the last years of her life so enjoyable and full of love.
