Funeral services celebrating the life of Mrs. Nannye Elizabeth Girod Wilks, 94, of West Monroe, LA will be held at 12:00 Noon Tuesday September 28, 2021, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe, LA with Rev. Ricky Baker officiating. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, LA.
Nannye Elizabeth was born in Hebert, La to Felix and Beatrice Girod. She played basketball in high school years. She married Chester Wilks on February 2, 1944 and made their first home in San Francisco, CA while he served in the U. S. Navy.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church in Monroe, LA. She retired from J. C. Penney department store after 30 years of service. She was a member of the American Business Women’s Association. After retirement, she enjoyed going to the Glenwood Mall meeting her siblings and getting their exercise walking the mall, and she was a member of the 10,000 mile Walkers Club. They enjoyed retirement by purchasing a trailer and hit the road with Volunteer Christian Builders helping churches in need around the country. Elizabeth was known for her cooking, most notable her strawberry shortcake. With health issues and a brain tumor being removed, she was an inspiration to all, having to learn to walk again the last 25 years 4 different times, and her positive outlook on life was remarkable.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester M. Wilks; parents Felix and Beatrice Girod, her 7 siblings, Russell, James, Roy, Mildred, Kathleen, Margie and June, and her daughter, Gloria Jean Miley.
Survivors: two daughters, Deborah W. Allen and her husband, Ralph, and Libby W. Fuller and her husband, Wayne ; Grandchildren, Jody Peske (Cliff), Mark Fuller (Lisa), Rusty Allen (Dodie), Matthew Fuller (Mona), Mary Ann Breland (Sam), Chris Miley (Lindsey), and Michell Arrant; 14 Great Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Rusty Allen, Cliff Peske, Rusty Baker, Henry Dannehl, Mark Fuller, and Matthew Fuller.
Visitation will be from 11:00 AM until service time at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe.
Memorials may be made to the building fund of First Baptist Church in Monroe, LA.

Elizabeth passed away from this broken world on September 25, 2021, to join the love of her life of 77 years. Jesus greeted her “well done my good and faithful servant, Bettye.”
