Nannie Jean McCaskill

A private graveside service for Mrs. Nannie Jean McCaskill, 93, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 11:00AM Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. James Douglas officiating under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.

Mrs. McCaskill was born on November 17, 1929, in Owensboro, KY to Everett and Bertha Boling Meador and passed away on September 8, 2023, in Monroe.

“MawMaw Jean” was the epitome of a happy homemaker and everything she did was about home and family.  She was a wonderful cook with an impressive collection of cookbooks which she would sit and read like novels. She cherished every minute of having her family in her home for any and all celebrations, even though she would work countless hours preparing food, serving and cleaning up.  She especially loved children and had a special way with them as evidenced by how much time she spent keeping her own grandchildren as well as the many years of church service to the nursery bed babies.

She also loved spending time at her camp on Lake Claiborne.  She spent many hours sitting on her deck in the swing looking down at the boat ramp and telling people how to launch their boat, even though she had never launched a boat herself. Her camp served as another venue for her family to gather and enjoy each other.

The desire of her heart was to be able to stay in her own home until her heavenly home going and our amazing God blessed her with that opportunity.

Mrs. McCaskill was preceded in death by her husband Billy Dan McCaskill, her parents, sister, Nora Meador and brother-in-law, Lloyd Cox.

Survivors include sister, Ruth Cox; son, Roy E. McCaskill and wife Linda, daughter, Judy M. Corkern and husband Corky; grandchildren, Keith McCaskill, Julie Armand and husband Michael, Alison Douglas and husband James, Preston McGee and wife Robin, Carla Corkern and husband Caleb Neames; 11 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
