Nancy Kay Hummel, age 71, was born on January 22, 1952, in Monroe, Louisiana to John Alexander Hummel, Jr., and Marie Louise (Dours) Hummel. On September 6, 2023, she entered into the gates of Heaven to join her parents, her brothers, John (Jack) Hummel, III and Donald Hummel, her sister, Beverly Hooper, daughter, Penny Arender, grandson, Owen Simmons, and nephews, John (Johnny) Hummel, IV and Eric Hummel.
Nancy was an amazing woman who was known for her caring, kind, and sweet spirit. She was a Registered Nurse whom was well loved by her patients and admired by her co-workers, working at St. Francis for 36 years. She loved cooking, baking, decorating, and celebrating all things (big and small) with family and friends. She loved holidays and gifting presents to her large family and many friends. She loved garage selling, decorating for holidays, unsweet tea, eclairs, white queso, Mexican food, and Johnny’s Sweep the Kitchen Pizza.
Nancy leaves behind her husband, Billy Odaware; her sons, Brian (Gwen) Arender and Brad Arender; her daughter, Traci Simmons; her stepsons, Dustin (Angela) Odaware and Derek Odaware; her grandchildren, Jorja and Jonas Arender, Logan, Laela, Ethan, and Grace Simmons, Blake (Emily) Byrd and Cameron Byrd, Chelsea Hatok, and Murphy Blackwell, III; four great grandchildren; four surviving brothers, Wayne (Lottie) Hummel, Gary (Joyce) Hummel, Kurt (Kim) Hummel, and Dr. Glenn (Lisa) Hummel; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend, Dorothy Higgins Rayford.
The family would like to thank Keith Champion and Kenyatta Robinson for all of the care and compassion they showed to our mother over the past several months. We could not have traveled this journey without your support.
