A celebration of Nancy “Nana” Byers’ life will be held at 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, October 2, 2018, at Cedar Crest Baptist Church with Rev. Barry Blanton, Rev. Jerry Wallace and Rev. Brent Wallace officiating. Visitation will begin at 12:00 P.M. until service time at the church. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Calhoun, LA, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of West Monroe.
Nancy was born on December 4, 1936, in Black Rock, AR and made her trip to Heaven on September 28, 2018. Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Percy and Patti Townsend; and her husband of 54 years, Dorsey W. Byers.
Nancy is survived by her daughter, Beth Thurman and husband, Randy of Calhoun, LA; two grandsons, Parker Thurman of Natchitoches, LA and Davis Thurman of Calhoun, LA; one sister, Ann Weaver, nephew, Steve Weaver and niece, Annette Weaver Mason and their families, all of Charlotte, NC.
Nancy’s two priorities during her life were her Lord and her family. She was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother, and grandmother. Nancy’s service to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ were evident to all throughout her life. Nancy and Dorsey were involved in helping to plant 3 churches during their years of ministry and helping to start and serve in the Chinese Ministry at First Baptist Church, Monroe for over 10 years. Many friendships that began there became as family in this ministry and continue today. Nancy was involved in the Billy Graham Ministries, Operation Christmas Child, Christian Community Center and the Prison Fellowship Ministry.
