The memorial service will be held at North Monroe Baptist Church on Sunday, February 22, 2009, at 2:00 PM with Pastor Bill Dye, Rev. Chris Witt, Rev. Jimmy Brent, and Rev. Dallas Witt officiating. Interment will follow at Morehouse Memorial Park Cemetery in Bastrop, LA.
Morris Howard “Moose” Douglas passed away at the age of 67 on February 20, 2009 after a two-year battle with cancer. He was born on August 15, 1941 in Hodge, LA. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lela Thomas Douglas of Jonesboro, LA; father, Baskin Culpepper Douglas of Jacksonville, FL; two brothers, David and Wallace Lee Douglas.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Lois “Dinky” McGough Douglas; two sons, Dowd and wife Elizabeth of Lake Charles, LA and Drew and wife Mona of Tyler, TX; daughter, Dusti Douglas Brodie of Monroe; three grandchildren, Kara Brodie of Monroe, LA, Dawson and Delaney Douglas of Tyler, TX; step-grandson, Andrew Strong of Lake Charles, LA; sister, Jan Ree and husband Billy Burson of Ridgecrest, CA; and nieces and nephews in California. He is also survived by Alice and Jim Brent, Mary and Robert McGough, Margaret and Robert Ziegler, Betty and Charlie Lee King, Gail and Charles McGough, Jeannie and Chris Witt, David McGough, Margie Dean McGough Bruce, twenty-three nieces, nephews, and their families.
Moose was a 1959 graduate of Jonesboro-Hodge High School. He earned his B.S. degree from Northeast Louisiana State College (now ULM), M.S. degree from Northwestern State University, plus 30 post-graduate hours from McNeese State University.
He began his dedicated teaching and coaching career in Orlando, FL in 1964. After returning to Louisiana in 1968, he continued teaching until 2007 when he became ill. He was a member of North Monroe Baptist Church and the Encouragers Sunday School Class.
Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be nephews: Tim Brent, Greg Green, Clay King, Rock King, Chuck McGough, John McGough, Keith McGough, Larry McGough, Jessie Witt, Allen Ziegler, Mark Ziegler, Michael Ziegler, and Rodney Ziegler.
The family would especially like to thank Dr. Scott Lippman and his associates and staff at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX, as well as family and friends for all their prayers and support during this difficult time.
Visitation will be at Mulhearn Funeral Home on Highway 165 North in Monroe on Saturday, February 21, 2009, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
