Private family graveside service for Mr. Mitchell Sam Miletello, 92, of Monroe, LA, will be held on Saturday, May 9, 2020, at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery with Rev. Keith Garvin officiating. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Monroe. Due to the present climate of caution, a memorial mass will be held at a later date.
Mr. Miletello was born on February 14, 1928, the youngest of seven children, in Maringouin, LA, son of Sam and Josephine Miletello and passed away on May 7, 2020, at his residence in Monroe. He owned and operated Mitchell’s Grocery for twenty years and later worked for the Sewer/Water Department for the City of Monroe from 1970 until 1998 when he retired as a Maintenance Supervisor over the Sewer Department. Mr. Miletello received the Extraordinary Personal Service Award, the highest honor given by the American Red Cross National Organization for saving the life of Mr. Harley Prichard, a coworker, by performing CPR. He served the community with his active membership and leadership, being a veteran of the United States Air Force, lifetime member of the American Legion Chapter in Monroe, AMVETS, Knights of Columbus and a member of the Progressive Men’s Club. Mr. Miletello has been a member of Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church for over 60 years, serving as a Trustee and as a head usher, which is an example for us all. He was preceded in death by his son, Mike Miletello and five siblings.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Josephine R. “Jodie” Miletello; children, Larry Miletello and wife Sandra, Jo Marie Miletello Schaff and husband Greg, Diane Miletello Mulhearn and husband Butch, Karen Miletello McDuffie and husband Mark; daughter-in-Law, Leslie Miletello; sister, Nellie Cicero; grandchildren, Katie Allen and husband Brett, Ben Schaff and wife Chelsea, Matthew Miletello and wife Marylane, Colby Miletello and wife Courtney, John Mitchell McDuffie, Charlie McDuffie, Ella McDuffie, Kallan Mulhearn, Sarah Haines and husband Anthony; great grandchildren, Isla Miletello, Hutton Miletello, Josie Allen and Evie Allen.
Memorials may be made to Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Mitchell was a quintessential southern gentlemen and was loved by all who knew him. Mitchell was an amazing man with an amazing testimony leaving an incredible legacy. We would love to have seen and heard the Lord welcoming His saint home with the words, well done thy good and faithful servant.
