Mike Ouchley, age 72, of West Monroe, LA passed from this earth December 15, 2018 after a lengthy illness. He was born in November 19, 1946 to Clarence Ouchley and Miriam Acree Ouchley, the youngest of five children. Born and reared in Rocky Branch, LA, after graduating from Farmerville High School, he joined the Navy and served on the aircraft carrier Ticonderoga with service in Vietnam. After leaving the Navy, he began work at Louisiana Power and Light, later Entergy, where he retired after more than 40 years of service gaining many lifelong friends along the way. He was an avid hunter and fisherman throughout his life, spending countless hours with many children through the years, teaching them his love of the outdoors and admiration for nature. He was a keen competition archer and began bowhunting and target shooting in the early 1970’s. A former president and honorary member of the Northeast Louisiana Archery Association, “papaw” still amazed his grandchildren with his archery skills and accuracy even when shooting from a wheelchair in the backyard near the end of his life. He was a member of several hunting and archery clubs throughout the years, enjoying the competition and fellowship of many friends. He was a friend you could always pick up the phone and call if you needed help (unless the Saints were playing, you might have to wait).
Above all, he was a devoted husband and a wonderful father and grandfather, leading by example, showing his family that a life of hard work, being decent and kind to others, and staying steady through hard times will give you a life worth living.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Sharon Armstrong Ouchley; his father and mother, Clarence and Miriam Ouchley and two brothers, Bobby Ouchley and Norman Ouchley.
He is survived by son and daughter in law, Justin and Christie Ouchley; four granddaughters, Julia Grace, Hannah, Olivia and Sophia Ouchley; sister Lea Frank; brother Glenn Ouchley and wife Debra, many nieces and nephews, his special niece Kellie Martin McKamie and friend Sue Peoples.
The family would like to give special thanks to Deni Parker and Mary Beth Bearden for all of their help in his final days.
Pallbearers will be William James Brooks, James Brooks, Seth Brooks, Ryan Kirkham, Bo Ingles and Logan Green.
Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe.
