Michael Joseph Ham was born on July 7, 1953, and passed away on March 20, 2018. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in West Monroe, Friends of Black Bayou National Wildlife Refuge and Motorcycle Club.
Michael’s time here was spent bringing joy and love to people of all walks of life. He loved his home on the bayou, where he created and taught in his blacksmith shop, took friends and family on bayou boat trips, and sat with Becky watching the flow of bayou life. His infectious love of hiking led to many funny stories among friends and family in Arkansas and Montana, where he carried some of mother’s load on multi night back country trips over many miles.
Mission work was very important to Mike. He was always ready to cook for Epiphany, at Swanson Correctional Center, and DeSiard Street Shelter, to serve or clean up at other functions. Mike enjoyed working at the Pumpkin Patch, the ULM Wesley Foundation and mentoring confirmands. Wednesday Morning Prayer Breakfast and many Bible Studies were a great source of learning about God’s Word that strengthened Michael’s journey and helped him help others on their journey. Michael gave so many pints of blood over so many years he had countless mugs of gallon donor recognition.
Early in life, Michael loved motorcycles and got his first at 18 years old. He and a very special group of men enjoyed their motorcycle adventures.
Family was always first in Michael’s heart. He left his wife, mother, brothers, sisters, and many nieces and nephews to carry on his love, memories of his life and example of his love.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, West Monroe, Friends of Black Bayou, or to the charity of your choice.
