Michael H. Stone

Funeral services for Michael H. Stone, 58, of Monroe, will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, December 4, 2018, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe, with Deacon Tom Deal officiating. Interment will be in Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday and 1:00 PM until service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Stone was born May 3, 1960, in Los Angeles, CA, where his father was stationed in the Navy. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Friday, November 30, 2018, at LSU Hospital in Shreveport after a brief illness. He graduated from Newellton High School class of 1978 and NLU in 1984. Michael recently retired from teaching and coaching in Texas and Louisiana. He was an avid athlete who enjoyed all high school and college sports and helped coach Neville football to the 5A State Championship in 1995. He inspired many young men both on and off the field.

Coach Stone was a master chef, trivia master, had a vast understanding of history, movie buff, had an amazing recall of names and faces, was a faithful friend with many enduring bonds and a committed coach of life’s lessons.

Mike Stone was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Stone of Newellton, LA; and paternal grandparents, Ernest and Rosetta Stone, who were actively involved in raising him.

Mr. Stone was a proud and loving father of his children, who survive him, Rachel Robinson (Caleb) and Ethan Stone; his first grandchild due in February 2019; brother, Gary E. Stone (Deborah); friend and mother of his children, Jennifer James Stone; and special friend, Carla Bingham.
