Funeral services for Mr. Melvin Laverne Evans, Sr., 82, of Monroe, LA, will be held 2:00PM Sunday, July 19, 2020, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe with Rev. Lindle Stewart officiating. Interment will follow at Bosco Baptist Church Cemetery in Monroe, LA. Visitation will be held from 12:00PM until service time Sunday at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road.
Mr. Evans was born August 13, 1937, in Mangham, LA and passed away Friday, July 17, 2020, at his residence in Monroe, LA. Melvin served his country in the United States Army. He retired from Manville Paper. After retirement he worked with a construction company. He enjoyed fishing, taking care of the cows and hay fields. He was a funny and compassionate man with a passion for life that enjoyed visiting with friends and never gave up!
Mr. Evans is preceded in death by his wife, Merrylon Evans; parents, Bertha Brown Evans and Archie Matthew Evans; and his brothers and sisters.
Survivors include four children, Shirley Harris (David), M. L. “Josh” Evans, Jr., Vickie Flemming (David), and Joey Evans (Shelia); eleven grandchildren, Daniel Harris (Jennifer), Patrick Harris (Lauren), Matthew Harris (Jennifer), Darren Guess, Holly Guess (Justin), Dusty Flemming (Kristen), Scotty Flemming (Alana), Daniel Guess, Brandon Casey, Matthew Casey, and Savannah Evans and fiancé Taylor Hipp; fourteen great grandchildren, Madison, Grahm, Kathryn, Evelyn, Emma, Charlotte, Elliott, Kaleigh, London, Kaiden, Cole, Colt, Colby, and Aida; brother, Ernest Reece Evans, Sr.; sister, Eula Mae Nobles; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
