Melvin Aubie Powell

Funeral Services for Mr. Melvin Aubie Powell, 86, of Sterlington, LA will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, September 2, 2012, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. Michael Parker officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Powell was born September 27, 1925 in Haynesville, LA and passed away Thursday, August 30, 2012, at his residence in Sterlington after a brief illness. He was a member of Sterlington Assembly of God Church and retired from LP&L as control operator supervisor. Mr. Powell was a U. S. Army veteran serving during WWII.

Mr. Powell was preceded in death by his parents, Aubie Lee and Bertha McClung Powell; sisters, Lurline Hall and Ruby Haynes; brothers, Vester Ray Powell, Elmer Anderson Powell, and Marvin Lee Powell; and great grandson, Codye Aaron Mardis.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Jean Gandy Powell; brother, Aubie Lee Powell; children, Jann Chapman and husband Jim, and Dennis Powell and wife Darla; grandchildren, Julie Beckley, Michael Powell, Michelle Powell, Matt Powell, Brooke Chapman, and Clay Chapman; great grandchildren, Cameron Beckley, Caden Beckley, Cole Beckley, Aubrey Powell, Timmy Brazzell, and Tommy Brazzell; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Michael Powell, Matthew Powell, Jared Powell, Clay Chapman, Cole Beckley, and Danny Thomas.

Visitation will be Sunday from 12:00 Noon until service time at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
