Mary Byars Lindsey passed away peacefully on February 11, 2021, at the age of 86. Mary was born on January 20, 1935, in Bearden, Arkansas, where she later met and married the love of her life, Doyle Wayne Lindsey. They ultimately made their home in West Monroe, Louisiana, where Mary resided for over 60 years. Mary worked for 40 plus years at the Ouachita Valley Branch of the Ouachita Parish Public Library, where she inspired many to develop a love of reading and was affectionately referred to as “Library Mary.” Upon her retirement from the Library, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. They, along with her daughter, were her pride and joy. She was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church, West Monroe (First West), where she faithfully attended Sunday School and Worship Service. She lived a long and full life and will be greatly missed.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Troy Taylor Byars and Lucille Marshall Byars; her husband, Doyle Wayne Lindsey; and her son-in-law, Eddie James Hill.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Angela Lindsey Hill; her granddaughter, Lindsey Hill Stringer, and husband, Todd Stringer; her grandson, Landon James Hill, and fiancée, Desirea Hatfield; her great-granddaughters, Scarlett Ann Stringer and Laiken Elise Hill; and her sister, Flora Byars Calaway.
A Memorial Service honoring her life will be held on February 27, 2021 at 2:00 P.M. in the chapel at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe, Louisiana, with Rev. Mark Fenn officiating.
