Mary was born on February 2, 1949 in Harlingen, TX. Mary grew up in San Antonio, TX and later moving with her family to Monroe, LA while still in high school. Mary graduated from Neville High School and attended Northeast Louisiana University.
Mary married the love of her life, James W. Moore in 1972 in Monroe, LA at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church. The couple settled in Monroe, LA initially, and were able to live in many other areas over the next 25 years while raising their two children; Jamie and Sharon, before returning to Monroe to be closer to their family.
Mary was an adoring wife, and devoted and loving mother. She was very proud of her family and was excited to become a doting “Mamaw” to her 2 grandchildren. Others may love her children and grandchildren as much as Mary did, but no one will ever love them more. Mary loved holidays and family get-togethers; any chance to spend time with her family was important to her.
Mary was a friend to all who needed comfort and companionship, and would give away her last stitch of clothes to offer warmth to anyone whom needed.
Mary was a hard worker serving in many careers over her lifetime, including merchandising and retail, but found the most joy in her time helping care for the elderly in various nursing homes.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Joseph and Katherine Rogers Pittard, and brother, Charles Walter “Chuck” Pittard.
She is survived by her husband, James W. Moore; son , James “Jamie” W. Moore Jr. and his wife, Tiffany M. Moore.; daughter, Sharon K. Moore; sisters, Virginia Pittard, and Kathy Hudson; grandchildren, Matthew B. Moore and Jacob H. Moore; Katherine Brantely whom Mary and James care for like their third child; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Dennis Clack, Joe Waits, Justin Hammons, Christopher Carrol, Gage Jones, and Austin Works.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to the dedicated and tireless efforts of the medical staffs at Oak Wood Nursing Home and Premier Hospice.
They would also like to give their immense thanks and love to the countless individuals who have personally reached out over the last few days to offer support and love. Mary has been fighting as hard as any single person could be expected to overcome incredible odds and daunting expectations for many years now. None of that would have been possible without the support of those people to our family, and while there are too many to name individually, the family wants you all to know that these actions gave an incredible amount of help and comfort to Mary over these years.
The family is asking that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Autism Speaks.
