A memorial graveside for Mary Jo M. Gonzales, 83, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, April 26, 2025, at St. Matthew Catholic Church Cemetery in Monroe, with Rev. Dawnell Stodghill officiating, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd., Monroe. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. with a rosary at 6:00 P.M. Friday, April 25, 2025, at Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd.
Ms. Gonzales was born December 24, 1941, in Monroe, LA, and passed away on April 22, 2025. She retired from Kelly AFB.
Ms. Gonzales graduated from Incarnate Word High School in San Antonio, TX in 1959. She was also a co-owner of the Office Lounge in Monroe, LA, as well as the San Jacinto Club in San Antonio, TX. She received an Outstanding Civilian Career Service Award upon retirement from Kelly AFB on March 30, 1993, which was presented by the Department of the Air Force.
Ms. Gonzales was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Marianna Zagone; paternal grandmother, Elvira Marsala; mother, Rose Marie Zagone Marsala; father, Anthony J. Marsala; brothers, Anthony Marsala, Jr. and Raymond Marsala; sister, Carmela Marsala; aunts, Francis Zagone, Mica Lisotta (Philip), Gussie Dudich (John), Marie Lasuzzo (Tony), Josephine Zagone; uncle, Charlie Zagone (Frances); and cousins, Philip Lisotta, Rosina Hays (Pat), Vincent Zagone, Marianna Brown (Ray), Frank Hays, Phil Hays, and Pat Hays, Jr.
Survivors include her sisters, Debbie M. Nolan, Carmen Marsala, and Michele Marsala; nephew, Marsh A. Nolan and wife Whitney Nolan; grandnephew, Bishop Nolan; stepdaughter, Lily Griffith; and numerous cousins; as well as longtime friend, Paul Orrs.
The family would like to give many thanks to BG, MB, SH, PR, and Rev. Dawnell Stodghill for all the emotional and spiritual support.
The family would also like to give a special thanks to Elara Caring for making it possible to keep our sister at home, so we could keep a promise made many years ago, with much love.
