Mary Helen Cagle was born June 19, 1996, in Monroe, Louisiana, and passed on December 8, 2018.
Mary Helen’s greatest attribute was her ability to make others laugh. She will be remembered for her superb wit, her impeccable timing, and her unreserved honesty toward others. She was a brilliant writer and the “good kind” of feminist that could fit in at a southern Christmas. Mary Helen loved animals, and her love for others was greater than her love for herself. She was known by her friends as the “historian,” the “captionater,” and the “insta-editor” because she chronicled the time she spent with friends and family. Her love of music and her ability to create the perfect playlist made her the life of the party.
She graduated from Neville High School in 2014 and attended Louisiana State University pursuing a degree in education. Mary Helen was very passionate about and completed an advocacy internship for STAR (Sexual Trauma Awareness and Response). She had a tremendous impact on those she worked with during her time there.
Mary Helen is survived by her mother Rachel Brewton Cagle, her father and step mother Jeremy and Courtney Cagle, siblings Sally Grace Cagle, Maggie Sharp, Brooks McCoy, Makinze Cagle, and Cameron Cagle, grandparents Helen Brewton, Greg Brewton, Sally and Tod Cagle, uncles Jason Brewton, Bryan Cagle, Josh Cagle, cousins Downey and Currie Cagle, and her beloved dog Shug.
Visitation is scheduled for Wednesday, December 12, 2018 from 4-7 pm at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe, Louisiana. Funeral service will be held at St. Paul United Methodist Church, Monroe, Louisiana, on Thursday December 13, 2018, at 2:00 pm.
Pallbearers Jason Brewton, Bryan Cagle, Josh Cagle, Danny Breard, and Christopher Breard. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Ryder, Trevor Vanveckhoven, William Head, Jake Newton, Neil Mott, Mark Brewton, and Duke Guillory.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that donations in Mary Helen’s honor be made to STAR at star.ngo/donate, PAWS of Northeast Louisiana, or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation at fightcf.cff.org/batonrouge.
