Mary Gay Carter

Mary Gay Carter, 69, of Ruston, Louisiana and Tool, Texas, better known as “Mama Carter”, passed away on Sunday, August 1, 2021, while visiting family in Texas. She was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

Mama Carter was born to Tripp and Nell Faulk on January 1, 1952, in Monroe, Louisiana and was proud to be the first New Year’s baby born that year. After graduating from Neville High School in 1970, she graduated with an associate degree from Northeast Louisiana University and worked for McKenzie & Mouk Insurance Company before marrying the love of her life, Bruce Carter, Sr.

She was a member of Temple Baptist Church, where she enjoyed the Adult 8 Sunday School Class along with other Bible Study groups, was a devout Christian who loved the Lord, and loved to study the Bible. She always uplifted and encouraged those whom she met. Praying for others was an expression of her life of faith. Her outgoing personality allowed her to meet, encourage and pray for others, leaving a lasting legacy of encouragement in their lives. Her laugh, sense of humor, and love of people has been passed onto her children and grandchildren.

Mama Carter enjoyed spending her time in conversation with family, friends, and even strangers. She was the best listener and had the ability to make people feel loved and special! In fact, many considered her a second Mother. At Christmastime, she and Papa Carter always enjoyed baking over 400 gingerbread cookies for family and friends. She enjoyed genealogy, traveling the world, spending time with her grandchildren, crafting ceramics, and playing games like bridge, bunco, and Pokeno. In the past, she was a member of the Gideons Women’s Club, and Garden Club.

Mama Carter was preceded in death by her father, Reynolds Trippett Faulk, Jr., and her mother, Nell Davis Faulk. Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Bruce Dale Carter, Sr; daughter, Tracy Leigh (Cobb) Mitchell (husband, Robert) of Tool, Texas; son Bruce Dale Carter, Jr of Ruston, Louisiana; son Matthew Hayes Carter (wife, Paige) of Prosper, Texas; grandchildren, Reynolds Carter, Abby Carter, and Briggs Carter.
