Funeral services celebrating the life of Mrs. Mary Helen Arnold Meredith, 91, of Gilbert, LA will be held at 2:00 P.M. Friday, May 10, 2024, in the Calvary Baptist Church in Gilbert, LA with Rev. Fran Guy officiating. Interment will follow in the Oakley Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Winnsboro, LA.
Mrs. Mary Helen Arnold Meredith was born on December 22, 1932, in Gilbert, LA to the parents of Willie and Neoma Rider Arnold and died on May 8, 2024. The Meredith’s were an Air Force family and lived in many different places. They were stationed in Munich, Germany, and then Pennsylvania, Utah, Florida, and 3 times in Texas. They especially enjoyed the 5 years spent in Anchorage, Alaska. Mrs. Meredith was secretary of Muldoon Baptist Church, where James served as a deacon, and she was also clerk of the Chugach Baptist Association. They moved back to Gilbert after Jim retired from the Air Force. He served one tour in Vietnam. Mrs. Meredith retired as postmaster of Gilbert after working as clerk in Columbia and Gilbert. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Newton Meredith; sons, James Jr., William Joe, and Jay Carroll; sister, Linda Baccarini; grandchildren, William “Little” Joe, Jr. and Jessie Michelle.
Survivors include her brother, W. G. “Bud” Arnold of Gilbert, LA; two sons, John Meredith and wife, Sheryl of Winnsboro, LA and Jeff Meredith; eight grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and a very large extended family as well as many friends.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until service time on Friday at Calvary Baptist Church in Gilbert, LA.
