Ben Hackler officiating, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd., Monroe, LA. Visitation will be held from 10:30 A.M. until service time at the mausoleum.
Marvin Gordon Hackler, Jr., affectionately known as “Dee,” passed away peacefully at his home in Sterlington, Louisiana, on November 13, 2024, at the age of 88. Born on January 20, 1936, in Wood County, Texas, Dee was the beloved son of Marvin and Annie Hackler.
Though there was no “D” in his name, the nickname “Dee” was lovingly given to him by an aunt and remained with him throughout his life. He was known by many names—Dad, Pop, and a host of variations on “Dee”—all given by those who loved him dearly.
In March of 1956, Dee married Betty Jean Nolan, and together they shared over 61 wonderful years of marriage until Betty’s passing in 2017. Their marriage was a testament to enduring love and companionship.
Dee was preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Annie Hackler; his wife, Betty Jean; his brothers Charles Hackler (and his wife Billie Jo) and Truman Hackler.
He is survived by his children: Dennis Hackler and his wife Stacey, Donnie Hackler, and Amy Gallman and her husband Kyle. His legacy extends to his grandchildren, Ben (and his wife Jen), Matt, Savannah, Laurin, and Landrie; and great-grandchildren Abby, Madison, Jaxon, and Connor. Dee is also survived by his sister, Ann Taylor (and her husband Alfred), his brother Jerry Don Hackler (and his wife Darlene), and many nieces and nephews.
For over 36 years, Dee worked with United Gas Pipeline, forging friendships and sharing memories that he continued to recount with fondness. Though many of his former coworkers have passed on, the stories of their time together remained a cherished part of his life.
A quiet man with a love for solitude, Dee enjoyed fishing and hunting, often on his own until his children were old enough to join him. He shared treasured memories of catfishing on trotlines with his father, brothers, and a few close coworkers. In later years, Dee spent his time watching TV and taking leisurely rides to simply enjoy the sights—a pastime he also shared with his family, often spending vacations simply “riding, talking, and looking.” He was always happiest back at home, ready for the next journey.
Dee was a longtime member of Sterlington First Baptist Church and found comfort in his faith. He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Betty. His family takes solace in knowing they are together again and holds his memory close, cherishing both the quiet strength he embodied and the love he shared.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church of Sterlington, P.O. Box 725, Sterlington, LA 71280.
