A Celebration of Life for Mrs. Martha P. Platt, 77, of Mandeville, LA formerly of Monroe, will be held 2:00PM Friday, September 4, 2020, in the Chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe, LA, with Rev. Keith McVay and Rev. Gordon Davis officiating. Interment will be at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, LA. Visitation will be held from 12:00PM until 2:00PM Friday at the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road.
Mrs. Platt was born January 22, 1943 and passed away on August 27, 2020. She was a daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was born and raised in Tallulah, Louisiana and moved to Monroe, Louisiana to attend college at Northeast Louisiana University (NLU) to study Medical Technology. While at NLU she joined the sorority AOPi. Later she went back to NLU to study Education.
She met her husband while at NLU and settled in Swartz, Louisiana. She resided in Swartz until the death of her husband in 2019. She moved to Covington, Louisiana to be near her eldest son.
She enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling with her husband as hobbies. Together, they visited 48 states and many provinces in Canada.
Martha worked at St. Francis Hospital as a Medical Technologist. When her children were small, she went back to school to become a teacher. She taught high School Biology and Chemistry at Mangham and Bastrop High. After retiring as a teacher, she went back to work at St. Francis and eventually retired from there. She is preceded in death by her parents, Baskin Parks, and Roma Ates Parks; and husband, June Cleat “Joe” Platt Jr.
Survivors include her son, June C. "Jay" Platt III and his wife, Robin Vail Platt, son, Erick Parks Platt; and grandchildren, Nicholas Alexander Platt, Abigail Evangeline Platt, and Parker Vail Platt; sister, Carolyn Parks Patrick and her husband, Ronnie Patrick, and sister in law Renne’ Platt Ramsey and her husband, Ray Ramsey.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Gary Young, Jerry Buddy Coghaln, Al Bettencort, Jerry Graves, Gordon Davis, Bert Hatten, and The Nobility of Barak Shrine Temple.
