Martha Rachel Wiggins Johnson

Martha Rachel Wiggins Johnson passed away on December 3, 2022, in Spring, Texas.  Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, December 9, 2022, at Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe, Louisiana.  Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 10, 2022, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe, Louisiana.  Interment will follow at Chatham Cemetery in Chatham, Louisiana, with the Reverend Mike Green officiating.

Martha Rachel was born on April 26, 1927, to the union of Joyce Ingram Wiggins and Dewey Felton Wiggins in Liddieville, Louisiana.  She was a graduate of LSU (where she was a beauty queen) and of Ogden High School.  She married Wayne D. (“Booby”) Johnson of Chatham after moving to Chatham to teach home economics.  She was a devoted wife and helped her husband in running his businesses while being a devoted mother to her children, Dale and Carol Ann, and continuing to substitute teach.

She loved the Lord and was a member of Chatham Baptist Church.  Until her eyesight failed her, she read her Bible and devotions daily.  She was a beautiful person, inside and out.  She was also a wonderful cook and was especially known for her pecan pralines.  She was a Past Worthy Matron in the Order of the Eastern Star and was a member of Dixie Chapter No. 179 at the time of her passing.  She also loved traveling, gospel music, and any dog or cat that ever crossed her path. 

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Dale F. Johnson; and her brother, Pete Wiggins.  Those left to cherish her memory and apply her life lessons and values include her daughter, Carol Ann Johnson, and many beloved family members and friends.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Keith Barnett, Dana Colding, Keith Allen Parker, Keith Johnson, Rick Busher, Steve Johnson, Steve Tannehill, and Thomas Forshaw.
