Funeral services for Martha Helen Robinson Alford 73, of Start, La. will be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Start Baptist Church, Start, LA. Officiating will be Bro. Jeff Thomas. Burial will follow at Start Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Rayville, La. Mrs. Alford was born on July 12, 1942 and went to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, November 8, 2015. She was born on Wynn Island and lived her 73 years in Start, LA. She was preceded in death by her parents James Percy and Ida Marie Robinson. She is survived by a devoted and loving husband of 57 years-George “Teeny” Phillip Alford; one son-Phillip Gregory Alford and wife Lisa ; two daughters-Dawn Sheree Alford and Rachel Marie Alford Alden and husband Nick; four grandchildren-Jordan, Phillip, and Jessie Alford and Addison Alden; two sisters-Mary Ann Coughran and husband Billy and Minnie Jo Stewart; three sister-in-law’s-Pearl Wynn, Mary Rose Stephens and Billie Alford; and host of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Alford was a member of Start Baptist Church, Start, LA. She was a retired nurse and worked at St. Joseph Nursing Home, Sterlington Hospital and Rayville Guest Home for many years. Martha loved spending time with her family and grandkids and in quiet times reading a good book. Her laughter and smiling eyes lit up the room. She survived cancer for three years and lived a full, positive life. . Her generous heart filled her home with love, family and friends, including an attitude that there was always room for one more. Martha will be remembered by her family and friends as a gentle, caring, loyal woman who cared unconditionally, gave without question, and held honesty in high regard. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 preceding the funeral service at Start Baptist Church, Start, LA. Pallbearers will include Jeff Smith, Lamar Hillis, William Duffey, Mark Coughran, George Word, Jr., and Mike Stephens.
