Martha Buffington

Funeral services for Martha Buffington, 61, of Sterlington, will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, June 15, 2018, at Sterlington First Baptist Church with Rev. Ben Hackler and Rev. Dennis Hackler officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday, at Mulhearn Funeral Home.

Mrs. Buffington was born July 5, 1956, and died Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at St. Francis Medical Center. She graduated from Sterlington High School in 1974 and ULM in May 1991 with a bachelor’s in education. Mrs. Buffington was a National Certified Teacher and named Teacher of the Year twice. She was a 27-year school teacher at Sterlington Elementary (formerly A.L. Smith Elementary); a life-long member of FBC Sterlington where she served as pianist for 48 years and helped with the Children’s Choir and Ministry. Martha began the Heart to Home Ministry at FBC Sterlington in 2017. She made an impact on everyone she met. Her faith in God has been instrumental in all of her family, friends, and students’ life.

Mrs. Buffington was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Clarence and Thelma Doss; paternal grandparents, Brady and Eula Mae Dean.

Survivors include her husband of 42 years, Kenneth Ray Buffington of Sterlington, LA; son, Benji and wife Hannah of West Monroe, LA; daughter, Courtney Worley and husband Ben of Alpharetta, GA; four grandchildren, Harrison and Olivia Buffington, and Deacon and Mila Worley; parents, Lafeze and Frances Dean of Sterlington, LA; sisters, Charlotte Deville and husband Jerry of Bastrop, LA, and Debbie McGough and husband Hugh of Benton, LA; brother-in-law, Doug Buffington and wife DeDe; five nephews; and four nieces.

Pallbearers will be First Baptist Church Sterlington Deacons.

A portion of the Sterlington Elementary Library will be renamed "Buffy's Corner" in memory of Martha. "Buffy", as she was known to her grandchildren, will always be remembered at Sterlington Elementary for her many years of tremendous service both to her students and to her coworkers.
