Ricky Baker officiating. Interment will be in Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:30 PM until service time.
Marsha died March 20, 2019, at St. Francis Medical Center after a sudden illness
Marsha was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years, Fontaine Emmons; son, Raymon Wilson Emmons; parents, Yancey and Bernice Hatten; sisters, Ann, Vanita and Dot.
Marsha leaves her daughter, Dena Leggett and son-in-law Pete; grandsons and their wives, Britton and Nicole Leggett, and Chad and Bonnie Leggett; great grandchildren, Emory-Cooper, John Peyton and Adeline Jane Leggett; sister, Jean Jacobs and husband Joe; brother, Archie (Bud) Hatten and wife Nellie Ray; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Marsha was a long-time member of First Baptist Church in Monroe, LA. For many years, Marsha owned and operated Marsha’s Beauty Shop where her customers were like family.
Mom (Gee) had a passion for the outdoors enjoying hunting and fishing in many locales, her favorite which was the Old Jack Hunting Camp owned by Dr. Albert Donald Family and with the aide of Fontaine, Doc, Sam and Dr. Clyde she enjoyed many successful hunts. With Fontaine, Marsha fished many area lakes, none more beloved than Bayou Bartholomew where they lived out their lives. Many happy hours were spent with her grandsons and Fontaine in the woods, on the lake and the Ouachita River. Mom was a fierce competitor, competing in area Senior Olympics and National Senior Olympics and she won several blue ribbons to prove it. She was named Senior Olympian of the Year in a proclamation signed by the Governor of the State of Louisiana. For over 60 years she was a member of the WBA (Women’s Bowling Association) and competed in National tournaments all over the United States. She bowled a perfect score 300 a real accomplishment for an amateur bowler.
Indeed, she was a country girl but she could throw a fine “tea party” and did so for many brides to be and graduates. The country girl could cook too with her specialty being praline and chocolate pie. If you have been to the Ouachita Council on Aging you have probably seen her Art Work. She loved painting pictures and the joy it brought to those who hang a M Emmons painting.
We would like to thank St. Francis 5th floor (B) nurses, Dr. Donna Donald, Dr. Clyde Elliott, Dr. Jill Phillips and the many other health care providers who helped take care of her. We will miss her forever.
Pallbearers will be Scott Fordham, Jeff Donald, Colin Mull, Ronnie Laborde, Tommy Lambert, Walt Elliott, and Alan Donald. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Clyde Elliott, Sherm Elliott, Joe Jacobs, and Tommy Bordelon.
Memorials may be made to the Ouachita Council on Aging, 2407 Ferrand St., Monroe, LA 71201.
