Funeral services for Marjorie Ellen Decker Hammett, 87, of Thompsons Station, TN, formerly of Monroe, LA will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, April 29, 2018, at the Lea Joyner Memorial United Methodist Church, Monroe, LA with Pastor Ben McGehee and Associate Pastor Betty Swanson officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, Monroe, LA, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home.
Marjorie was born on February 11, 1931, in Doniphan, MO, and passed away on April 24, 2018, in Thompsons Station, TN.
Marjorie was a member of Lea Joyner Memorial United Methodist Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir for many years. Marjorie graduated from Forest High School, Forest, LA and Northeast Louisiana University, Monroe, LA, with a BA and Master in Elementary Education. She taught at Minnie Ruffin Elementary in the Monroe City School System and at A.L. Smith Elementary in the Ouachita Parish School System for twenty-five (25) years.
Marjorie is proceeded in death by her parents, Otha Decker and Dorothy Barnes Decker; and brother, Harold Decker.
Survivors include her husband of 65 years, Glen Edward Hammett formerly from Monroe, LA; daughters, Debra R. “Debbie” McBride and husband, Robert of Murfreesboro, TN and Karen L. Nugent and husband, Don of Thompsons Station, TN; sisters, Joanne Lunsford of Lebanon, MO, Fern Prater and husband, Von of Lebanon, MO, and Linda Walter and husband, Art of Lebanon, MO; grandchildren, Jennifer Hobbs, Kayla McBride Martinez, Brandi Nugent Thomisee, Ryan Nugent, Lynnsey Nugent Creamer; great-grandchildren, Annalyn Page, Ira Page, Trace Martinez, Karina Martinez, Ashley Jenkins Hunt, Brooke DeBoit, Jarrett Thomisee, Hadley Creamer, Luke Nugent, Lynnli Nugent, Alexis Logue, Jailynn McKeever, Kyla McKeever; great-great-granddaughter, Tori Hunt; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Ryan Nugent, David Hammett, Lee Hammett, Randy Hammett, Steve Howell, and Scotty Jones.
Visitation is 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Saturday, April 28, 2018, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe, LA.
