Funeral services celebrating the life of Marion A. Lawrence, 62, of Riverview, FL will be held at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, July 8, 2017, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home West Monroe, LA with Dr. Mark Fenn officiating. Interment will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Castor, LA at 3:00 P.M.
Marion Alvin Lawrence passed away on June 29, 2017, after a brief illness.
He was born on December 18, 1954, in Monroe, Louisiana, to parents Marion Blakney and Alvis Lawrence, who preceded him in death.
Marion was a 1972 graduate of Wossman High school, where he was a member of the band and football team. He held a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education from Northeast Louisiana University.
Nicknamed “Brother” in the neighborhood in which he grew up, he enjoyed playing football, piano, saxophone, and guitar. He loved getting together with old friends when he came home for visits.
Marion loved singing and performing music for people. He was a founding member of numerous bands including “Studio One”, “Nuthin’ Fancy”, “Abalon” and “The Shakerz” as well as playing with many other groups. He loved cars and was skilled at restoring antique vehicles.
More than anything, Marion loved his family. He was very proud of his son and grandson and never tired of talking about them.
He is survived by his son, Stephen Lawrence and wife Claire; grandson, Sean Lawrence of Metairie, Louisiana; sisters, Judy Nagel and husband David of Starkville, Mississippi, Jayne Tubb and husband Daniel of West Monroe, Louisiana; brothers, Paul Lawrence and wife Wendy of Kingsport, Tennessee, Michael Lawrence and wife Melanie of Nolensville, Tennessee, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Marion was loved by so many and will be greatly missed.
Pallbearers will be Ben Nagel, Blake Lawrence, Luke Lawrence, Zachary Tubb, Jeffrey Kidd, John Paul Fontenot and Andrew Nagel.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., Friday, July 7, 2017, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe, LA.
Memorials can be made to American Heart Association or Alzheimer’s Association.
