She was endowed with great respect and love for God, her family, friends, and God’s ability to create and perfect all growing things. She became a National Council Master Flower Show Judge and a National Council of State Landscape Design Critic, served as a State Cleanest City Chairman for the garden clubs, and was a member of the Eight District Judges Council.

Margie tirelessly lent her time and talents in flower arranging for many events, especially her church. She enjoyed entering flower shows in the state and judging in state and others. She has been awarded all the top National Awards. Margie shared her knowledge and expertise to those yearning to develop the art of floral design. She presented programs for other clubs and state conventions.

She was a member of College Heights Garden Club under the leadership of her best friends, Louise Tolar and Ella Johnson. Later she was a member of the Monroe and Bayou Desiard Garden Clubs. She helped Louise at the Sears Garden Center, kept the library books and design programs for T.V.

She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church, Monroe.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon L. Whitlock; parents, Lona and Jimmy Wells; brothers, Floyd, Tommy, Jerry, and Larry Wells; sisters, Dorothy Bateman, Doris Herron, Avon Boies and Gail Wells.

She is survived by her sons, James “Jim” Whitlock and wife Chrystal, and David Whitlock and wife Diann; grandchildren, Eric Whitlock and his wife Amanda, Karen Hood and her husband Will, and Douglas Whitlock; four great-grandchildren, Abby Hood, Sydney Hood, Allison Whitlock, and Drew Whitlock; sister-in-law, Clara Wells; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Eric and Douglas Whitlock; nephews, Dean Boies and Darryl Herron; and cousins, Jon and Todd Guice. Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Guice and Lonnie Bayles.
