Margarette Manning Croswell passed away on Friday January 29, 2010 in National City, California from COPD.  At the age of 79.  The family will receive friends on Saturday, February 13, 2010 from 11:00 A.M. until 1:30 P.M. with memorial services starting at 1:45 P.M., in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home West Monroe, LA .
 
Margarette was born in Union Parish, Louisiana, on September 28, 1930, to Lester and Della White Manning.  She was one of six children.  Margarette has one sole surviving brother, W.O. Manning.  After graduating High School, Margarette went on to complete a course in Business Management.
 
Margarette was a partner in a family restaurant and bar in San Diego. After selling the restaurant  she worked at Johnny’s restaurant as a server and worked her way up to the General Manager of the five stores.  Margarette then became the Catering Manager of the La Mesa Bowl in La Mesa for several year.  Margarette was the General Manager of the Boll Weevil restaurant in San Diego from 1965 -1986, and during that time she built the restaurant chain to over twenty restaurants.  Margarette was one of the four founding members of the South Bay Democratic Club, during the early eighties.
 
Margarette was an artist at heart.  She was an amazing painter and photographer.  She was able to paint such beautiful and award winning paintings. She also had an eye for the most beautiful landscapes, flowers and the most wonderful animal photos you have ever seen.  Margarette also loved to travel and to go fishing.  She was extremely fortunate to be able to travel with her mother in-law, Jackie by her side.  She was able to see such sights as the White House, Hawaii, Jamaica, cruise to Alaska, drive cross country and see the beautiful seasons change across the country.  Margarette loved to fish no matter where she was, from Alaska to Imperial Beach and everywhere between.  One of her most memorable fishing trips was a trip to Lake Powell that her brother in-law, Gerald Croswell planned.
 
Proceeding Maragrette in death was her daughter Barbara Harvey and her grandson Michael Wentz.
Margarette left behind a husband, James Croswell, which to whom she was married to for 47 years.  She also left behind a daughter Margaret Santes, a son Larry Croswell and two grandchildren, Karen Wallis and Josh Croswell.
