Funeral Services for Margaret Nelson Snipes, 78, of West Monroe, will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, May 13, 2023, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home with Rev. J.E. Brown officiating. Interment will follow at Harris Cemetery in Winnsboro, LA. Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., Friday, May 12, 2023, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe.
Mrs. Snipes was born August 7, 1944, in Crowville, LA and passed away May 9, 2023, at her residence.
Margaret Snipes first love was her Lord, Jesus Christ, which she showed by her love for her husband, sons, and the rest of her family. Her next love was teaching and helping others through healthcare.
Margaret Snipes was an RN, CS, and FNP. She graduated from Northeast Louisiana University School of Nursing in 1978 with a bachelor’s degree in nursing and began her distinguished professional career in the ICU at St. Francis Hospital. In 1985 she was hired as the Asst. Director of Nursing and ICU/CCU Director at North Monroe Hospital. She was the first recipient of the Dr. Frist Humanitarian Award at North Monroe Hospital. She was also named in Who’s Who in American Nursing in 1985. Later, she served as Acute Care Director at the North LA Dialysis Center. She then went on to earn her master’s degree in 1991 from Northwestern State University. From 1991 to 1995 she was an Asst. Professor in the NLU School of Nursing while also staying on staff at St. Francis Hospital. In 1995 she became a member of Louisiana’s first graduating class of Nurse Practitioners. Also, in this timeframe she was selected as one of eight delegates in the health field from the United States to travel to Russia to lecture and train healthcare treatments and protocols to Russia’s health team professionals. She began working at Delhi Hospital where she specialized and established the Diabetic Foot and Wound Care Clinic. She worked there for close to 20 years before retiring.
She is preceded in death by her son, John Mark Snipes; mother, Agnus Nelson; and father, Hansel Nelson.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, J.W. Snipes; sons, Dr. Eric Snipes (Kim) of Shreveport and Steven Snipes (Renee’) of West Monroe; grandchildren, Trey Snipes (Emily), Dene’ Masters (Levi), Gabriel Snipes, Scott Bullock (Ashley), and Nikki Martin (Brandon); 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Sharlot Robinson (Lee Roy); brother, Glen Nelson; sisters-in-law, Mary Snipes Cannon and Janie Nelson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Trey Snipes, Gabriel Snipes, Levi Masters, Scott Bullock, Brandon Martin, and Daryl Poland.
Memorials may be made to the Louisiana Baptist Childrens Home.
