Margaret (Mamíta) Martin was born October 10, 1939, of West Monroe, LA, and passed away July 6, 2023, at the age of 83.
Faith guided Margaret’s life, and after a long career with Louisiana Gas, she dedicated her golden years to serving others. Margaret was a regular volunteer as a Spanish teacher at the Senior Center in West Monroe and served as a Spanish interpreter and tutor for local schools and families in the community. She enjoyed bowling, thrifting, walking, gardening, crocheting, and needlework. She also enjoyed cooking, frequently sharing her rice and beans, pollo, tortillas, tamales, and bread with friends and family. Most importantly, she cherished time with her family, which included three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Margaret also enjoyed making frequent trips to her hometown of Brownsville.
Margaret was known for her outgoing, vivacious attitude. She could often be found at her grandchildren's and then great-grandchildren’s sports games, enthusiastically cheering with her signature, “Wow!”
Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, Guadalupe and Agustin Ríos of Brownsville, TX. She is survived by her two children, James Richard (Rick) Martin and Dee Dee Latham; grandchildren, Hannah Mayes, Jesse Richard Martin, and Haley Marsh; and great-grandchildren, Jackson, Mason, and Maxwell Mayes, Margo and George Martin, and Freya Marsh.
At Margaret’s request, no official services will be held.
