Margaret Jordan Reeks, age 93, of Monroe, LA went to meet her Lord early Sunday morning, January 31, 2016. Whether you called her Mama, Grandma, Aunt Margaret or Mrs. Reeks, Margaret was beloved by all of those who knew her. Her sweet disposition and loving attitude were evident to anyone who came in contact with her. She had a sharp mind and amazing memory to the very end and family and friends will miss sitting at her feet as she shared incredible stories of days long past.Margaret was born on September 13, 1922 in Pickering, LA, the first born of Alfred and Myrtle Jordan. She grew up through the Great Depression with her seven siblings and learned the value of hard work and family. During World War II, she worked as a machinist in an airplane manufacturing plant in Fort Worth, TX (a “Rosie the Riveter”) and did her part for the war. After the war, she returned to Leesville, LA. She married Connie Ethan Reeks in 1949 and moved to Pioneer, LA where she farmed with her husband and raised her family until after his death. During her years in Pioneer, she also served along with her husband as a pastor’s wife in several local churches. In 1977, Margaret moved to Monroe, LA where she resided for the rest of her life.Margaret had a strong faith and taught her children the joy of loving the Lord. Over the years, Margaret was heavily involved in several churches including Pioneer Baptist Church, Pioneer, LA and First Baptist Church, Monroe, LA where she taught Sunday School, worked in the church nursery, visited homebound members, and served in many other ways. Margaret was greeted in heaven by her husband; her mother and father; three brothers: Sanfred Jordan, Joe Jordan, and George Jordan; three sisters: Margie Foster, Mary Jane Burgess, and Donna Faye Pace. She is survived by one sister, Alpha Martin of Leesville, LA and many nieces and nephews.The joy of Margaret’s life was her family. She is survived by eight children and their spouses: Esther Atteberry and Connie Ruth Reeks of Monroe, LA; John and Loyce Reeks of Quitman, MS; Simon Peter Reeks of Harrison, AK; Hannah and Melvin Hunter and Deborah Reeks of Sterlington, LA; Anna and Robert Spaulding of Burleson, TX; and Rachel Pace of Yorktown, VA. She was preceded in death by two step-daughters: Laferne Welch of Leesville, LA and Artie Mae Smith of Longview, TX; her grand-daughter, Joanie Reeks of Quitman, MS; and her son-in-law, James Pace of Yorktown, VA. Her other grandchildren include John Christopher Reeks of Huntsville, AL; Joanna Hunter of Rayville, LA; Alfred Hunter and Rebekah Hunter of Monroe, LA; Emily Pace of Yorktown, VA; nine step-grandchildren and many great grandchildren.Visitation will be held at Mulhearn Funeral Home, 2308 Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, February 1, 2016. Funeral services, officiated by Rev. Richard Turnley, will be held at Mulhearn Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 2nd at 10:00 am. Graveside services will take place at Reeks’ Cemetery in Pioneer, LA at 2:00 pm.
