Graveside services for Mrs. Margaret Denstell Brandon, 93, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at Riverview Cemetery with Rev. Betty Swanson officiating under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd. Monroe.
Margaret was born on June 28, 1930, in Waterproof, LA. She was known as Margaret, Margarette, Sister, MaMaw, and Momma. Margaret and Eugene were married on July 14, 1949. During the first 20 years of marriage, Margaret was a military wife and traveled with Eugene when she could. They had two children, Sheila and Ricky. Margaret loved God, her family, her garden, taking care of others, and “thrifting.” She could identify any plant in the yard and tell from whom or where she got it. She loved to give advice, even if you didn’t want it. She loved everyone she met and was able to find a connection with each person. Margaret was the matriarch of the family and loved for the extended/blended families to gather. She had a keen memory and shared stories from the past. Margaret was a member of Lea Joyner Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Conger Brandon; father, Joseph Denstell; mother and stepfather, Florence Dingler Denstell Segars and Alvin J. Segars; son, Ricky Brandon, Sr.; grandson, Ricky Brandon, Jr.; and siblings, Penny Segars, Joseph Denstell, Jr., John Segars, Tim Segars, and Barbara Ward.
Survivors include her daughter, Sheila Brandon Mahon (Tex); sister, Exell Perkins (Joe); sisters-in-law, Alice Payne Clark (Lee), Joan Denstell, Maxine Payne, and Janice Segars; grandchildren, Kelley Brandon, Mark Dennis (Pasha), Jason Dennis (Sherri), Rayne Brandon, Noah Brandon, and Steven Mahon, Jr. (Adrienne); great grandchildren, Kaelynn Higley, Lathan Dennis, Alex Brandon, Charlie D’Amico, Devin Schweinefus, Caleb Schweinefus, Alanie Aston, Channing Lawrence, Evan Burks, Grahm Burks, Kody Dennis, Kylie Dennis, Perry Sharp Mahon, Adelaide Brandon; and one great great granddaughter, Gracie Schweinefus; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
