Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, LA, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe.
Mrs. Porter was born December 9, 1935 and passed away September 5, 2019. She was a member of Rocky Branch Assembly of God and she loved Jesus. Mom knew the power of prayer and was a prayer warrior. Although her physical abilities were diminished in her later years, the one thing she could still do was pray and read her Bible. She prayed for her children and the other members of her very large extended family and friends. Through prayer and Bible study, she sought God’s strength through the difficult times of her life.
Her first husband, Billy Shaver, died of cancer leaving her with two little girls, Anita and Cindy. She had three more children: Reggie, Kyra, and Wade with her second husband, Jack Hathaway. Now raising five children, she and Jack made sure the entire family was in church every Sunday! Jack passed away due to complications from diabetes in 1987.
In 1989, God brought Margaret and M. O. Porter together. This marriage bond was based on strong Christian beliefs, a devotion to our Heavenly Father and a fine cup of coffee! As a family, we thank God for blessing our Mom and us through his good and faithful servant, M.O. Porter. Together their faith and walk with God grew stronger each day through thirty years of marriage. M.O’s love and devotion to her even in the difficult situations was admired and greatly appreciated by her family and friends. Through it all, M. O. demonstrated what it means to trust in Jesus and love unconditionally.
