Funeral Services for Mr. Maloy Slocum, 89, of West Monroe, LA will be held at 10:00 AM Tuesday July 28, 2009 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe with Rev. Danny McIlveene officiating. Interment will follow at Serenity Gardens Cemetery.
Mr. Slocum was born July 4, 1920 in Calhoun, LA and passed away on July 24, 2009 in West Monroe, LA. He served 4 years as a Sergeant in the United States Army during WWII. He was the Vice President and General Manager for Cotton Holsum Bakery and retired after 38 years.
He is preceded in death by his parents, C.F. and Cora Slocum; brothers, Marvin Slocum, Barnie Slocum, and O. N. Slocum; and sister, May Baxter.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lurline Howard Slocum; daughter, Linda Price and husband Leon; sons, Steven Slocum and wife Julia, and Greg Slocum and wife Tammy; 7 grandchildren, Jason Price and wife Kasey of Sterlington, Tracey Price Kuykendall and husband Chris of Monroe, Andy Slocum, Ashley Slocum, Kristin Slocum, Matt Slocum, and Alayna Slocum all of West Monroe; and 1 great grandson, Kaden Kuykendall. He is also survived by 4 sisters, Louise Griggs, Velva Williams, Lillian Mason, and Eloise Reed. He enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, and with Freddie his pet, man’s best friend.
Pallbearers will be Mike Howard, Randal Howard, Aubrey Griggs, Ken Slocum, Charles Baxter, Bernard Duchesne, and Bubba Reed. Honorary pallbearers will be Tommy Milstead, Carl Dupree, and Jack Sanderson.
Visitation will be 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday, July 27, 2009 at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe.
