Madge Zumbro Moore

Memorial services celebrating the life of Madge Zumbro Moore of Monroe, LA, will be held at 4:00 P.M. Sunday on December 22, 2024, in the Chapel of Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum, in Monroe, LA, with Rev. Warren Eckhardt officiating. Visitation will be held from 3:00 P.M. until the service time.

Madge was born December 1, 1935, to Eva Crowe Zumbro and Leroy Zumbro. She was raised by her beloved Daddy and Mother, William and Eva Crowe Durr. She died on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at St. Francis Hospital.

In addition to her parents, Madge is preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 52 years, Arnold “Slick” Moore and her sisters and their husbands Shirley Watts, (Bob) and Peggy Fuller, (Jim).

Madge graduated from Mercy Hospital-Street Memorial Nursing School in Vicksburg, MS in 1957 with her degree as a Registered Nurse. She began working for Dr. Ed Brown and Dr. Richard Vines at the Woman’s Clinic in 1963. The Clinic grew from 2 Doctors to 10, and Madge enjoyed her working relationship with all of the doctors. Madge retired in 1997, after 34 years of dedicated service. She dearly loved being a nurse and caregiver. She loved her patients, and they loved her. Madge and Dr. Vines, a dear friend to our family, were a wonderful team. It felt like every woman in Monroe knew Madge by name and treasured her for her genuine concern for their wellbeing and her friendship.

Madge loved the Lord, and her family joined Emmanuel Baptist Church in 1971. Madge volunteered tirelessly at the church. In recent years, she greatly enjoyed visiting and calling on shut-ins, decorating and organizing events and could often be found at the church with her friends attending services or working on projects.

Madge and Slick were very much in love and devoted to each other. They worked hard, teaching their children the value of a work ethic and loved raising their family together. She always placed the needs of her family ahead of her own. The children feel very blessed to have had such amazing parents.

In this last year, Madge moved to assisted living at St Joseph’s. After an adjustment period following a health issue, Madge started doing what she did so well….caring for others. She thrived at St. Joseph Assisted Living, making many friends. She started walking daily and soon had other residents joining her. She would check on residents who weren’t feeling well, would help set up the room for exercise and Bible Study and was always looking for ways to encourage others. She was a friend to all and went out of her way to make new residents feel welcome and help them adjust. Caregiving and helping others was just who she was as a person.

Madge loved reading, gardening and making her famous brownies. She was always asked to bring brownies to events by friends and family. She may have shared her recipe but none of us have been able to completely replicate her delicious brownies with icing.

Madge is survived by her children Richard Moore and wife Sharon, Deborah Moore Bolding and husband Perry, Michael Moore and wife Michelle; as well as grandchildren Adam Moore, Andrew Moore, Aaron Moore, Hannah Moore; and step-grandchildren Meredith Reddmann and husband Lee and Mitchell Bolding and wife Jacqueline, and their children - Elle, Peyton, and Weston Bolding.

Our special thanks to niece Tammi Owens for the love and care and special relationship she shared with Mom and all of our family.

The family would like to thank Dr. David Yarbrough and Christina for the care they have provided for many years, but especially the last couple of years. Our thanks to the staff at St. Joseph Assisted Living, as well as Cynthia and KeKe who were a tremendous help to Mom.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Emmanuel Baptist Church in Monroe or North Monroe Baptist Church.
