Lt. Colonel William L. HorneA Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday March 9, 2015, at 10:00 AM, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Swartz, for William “Bill” Horne, 80, of Monroe, Louisiana, who entered eternal life on March 6, 2015. The church will open at 8:30 AM for those wishing to pay respects to the family. A Rosary will be recited at 9:00 AM. The Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Joseph Puthuppally and Rev. Job Edathinatt. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home of Monroe. Bill was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas, on October 22, 1934, to the late William and Virginia Horne. A 1958 graduate from the University of Arkansas, he was employed in retail for many years. Dedicated to serving his country, he entered the Army as a 2nd Lieutenant. After spending 20 years as an Army reservist, Bill retired at the rank of Lt. Colonel. His life was one of service and duty, both to his country and his family. He was a devout Catholic and a parishioner of St. Lawrence Catholic Church. A loving husband, father, and grandfather, Bill was a very generous man and had a great love for animals. His hobbies included gardening and cutting and splitting firewood. He enjoyed watching football and was an avid New Orleans Saints and Arkansas Razorbacks fan. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Evelyn Tyl Horne; his children, Pam Horne Campbell and Billy Horne of Monroe, Louisiana; Debbie Horne Crenshaw and husband, Tom of Bentonville, Arkansas; Katie Horne DeLaune and husband, Glenn of Youngsville, Louisiana; and grandchildren, Allison Horne Reyna and husband, Ivan of West Monroe, Louisiana; Luke, Joshua, and Matthew Crenshaw of Bentonville, Arkansas; and great grandchildren Lucas, Sophia, and Henry Reyna of West Monroe, Louisiana; brothers, Jim Horne of St. Louis, Missouri and David Horne of Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, William J. Horne and Virginia L. Horne; a sister, Jacquie Horne Core; and a brother, John L. Horne. A heartfelt appreciation is extended by Bill’s family to Dr. Charles Morgan, Dr. Don Hammett, and Dr. Richard Zweig and all Mr. Horne’s caregivers for the compassionate care he was given.
