Funeral services for Louise Brent Mock, 90, of Monroe, will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 31, 2018, in the chapel of North Monroe Baptist Church, with Rev. Warren Eckhardt officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until service time Tuesday at the church.
Mrs. Mock was born February 15, 1928, in Winnsboro, LA, and was born into eternal life on Saturday, July 28, 2018.
We do not grieve like those without hope; Jesus has welcomed Louise into Heaven! Louise lived thanking God for His abundant blessings on her life. She was a hard worker in all she pursued. After picking cotton as a child, every other job was like winning the lottery. Working in a pants factory and dress shop gave her sewing skills and a love for clothing. Sewing for others gave her great delight and helped pay a few bills. In 1965 she and her dearly loved husband, Joe, opened Pizza Inn where they made excellent pizzas and even better life-long friends. She and Joe loved to be together – working, fishing, dancing, playing cards, and frying fish. They loved sharing their bounty with others. Louise very seldom gave into sentimentality but recently said of her beloved husband “42 years was just not long enough”.
She was well known for her love of family, friends, feeding you to excess, and playing card games and dominoes, not necessarily in that order. Louise took great delight in homemaking and keeping a beautiful yard. Mowing her own yard at 89 and weeding the flower beds just this May at 90 exemplified her spunk and can-do attitude. She worked hard and was very competitive at play – try beating her at Skip-Bo or beating her to the good garage sales. She also knew when to stop and rest. Afternoon coffee with those she loved was a highlight she looked forward to everyday. On July 28th, she went to have coffee with Jesus. She loved her family and her home was a shrine to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved her church family including her beloved Bob and her neighbors who were like family. Her 90 years included innumerable works of her hands, yummy meals, the best fried chicken, her famous Italian cream cake, fresh tomatoes from her garden, creamed corn, fig jelly, pass-along plants, hemmed pants or a taken-in blouse. You seldom left her house empty handed and you knew that you were loved.
Mrs. Mock was preceded in death by her parents, Ivy and Mellie Tyler Brent; and husband, Joe Edward Mock.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Donna Burkett and Mike, and Patsy Butler and Sam; grandchildren, Terry and Amber Burkett, Katherine and Justin Mitchell, and Elizabeth Butler and fiancé Keller Harbuck. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Ava and Wes Burkett.
Pallbearers will be Mike Burkett, Terry Burkett, Sam Butler, Justin Mitchell, Keller Harbuck, Tim Mock, and Steve Owens.
The family wishes to extend many thanks to her church, neighbors, and life-long friends for the visits, food, and fun companionship they so graciously provided.
