Funeral services for Louis Martin Luplow, 90, will be held Wednesday, August 22, 2012 at Messiah Lutheran Church, 12:00 PM with Rev. Dale Farley officiating under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM Wednesday at the church and continue until service time. Entombment will follow at Restland Memorial Park, Field of Honor, Dallas, TX.
Louis was born on May 5, 1922, in Youngstown, Ohio and died at home on August 19, 2012. He was the son of Louis August and Bertha Vrgl Luplow and lived in Chicago, IL, during his adolescent years. He graduated from Lindbloom High School, Chicago, and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on December 13, 1941. Louis was a dedicated Marine, serving in the Pacific, Wallice Islands, until his discharge from the Marine Corps on November 17, 1945. He forever lived by the motto, “once a Marine, always a Marine.”
Louis was employed by Frahm Motor Filters Company and Parchment Paper Company, Kalamazoo, MI, where he was a semi-pro baseball pitcher, until he joined the Kalamazoo Police Department in 1948. He received a Lawman of the Year Award and many other commendations. Following his retirement from the Kalamazoo Police Department in 1974, he served nine years as a U.S. Marshal in Kalamazoo and Portage, MI, and Police Chief for the City of Schoolcraft, MI. He relocated to Sarasota, FL in 1983, where he was a Security Officer for the Sarasota Public Library and several private companies. He relocated to West Monroe in January 2008.
Survivors include partner, Doris Spyker; son, Martin Louis Luplow (Andrea) of Westminster, Maryland; stepdaughters Nancy (Rev. Dale) Farley of Monroe, and Connie (Don) Fazio of Overland Park, Kansas; ten step-grandchildren and ten step-great grandchildren of Texas, Illinois, Kansas, and Norway.
