Louis Madison (Buddy) Nelson, Jr.

October 19, 1946 — April 8, 2020

Due to Covid restrictions in 2020, the family of Buddy Nelson would now like to welcome friends and family for a Celebration of Life at the home of Tim and Mamie Nelson, 213 Chadwick Street West Monroe, LA 71291. The event will be held Saturday, June 12, 2021 from 2-5pm.

Louis Madison Nelson, Jr (Buddy), was born in Alexandria, Louisiana on October 19, 1946. He passed away peacefully at his home in West Monroe, surrounded by family on Wednesday, April 8, 2020.

Buddy attended Fair Park High School in Shreveport, where he excelled in both basketball and baseball. Upon high school graduation he went on to play major league baseball for the Minnesota Twins. He served our country in the Army Reserves and later graduated from Northeast Louisiana State College. He retired from Sears Roebuck & Co.

Buddy enjoyed grilling, fishing, golfing and cheering on the LSU Tigers. He was a beloved father, grandfather, husband and friend.

Buddy is preceded in death by his wife Jane Mitchell Nelson, and parents, Louis Madison, Sr. and Florine Nolan Nelson.

He is survived by his four children; daughter, Mamie Nelson and husband, Tim; daughter April Lingenfelder; son, Terry Nelson and wife, Amy; and son, Eric Nelson and fiancé Acacia Cronic. He leaves behind 13 cherished grandchildren; John Arthur and Spencer Nolan Nelson; Blake Lingenfelder and Madison Lingenfelder Alvis and husband, Gage; Jessie, Ethan, Sydney, Judah, Hannah, Regan, Samuel, Levi, and Noah Louis Nelson. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Beverly Kendrick Nelson.

The family would like to thank Wayne Rutledge at Community Care Clinic for the many years of care and friendship and also Louisiana Hospice for the care given during his final days.
