Lora Ahee
Lora Ahee, age 70 of Calhoun Louisiana died Wednesday, August 7, 2019 at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.
Suzanne L. (Lora) Ahee was born to John E. and Donna Mae (Peel) Koetting on July 6, 1949, in Trenton Missouri. The family lived In Laredo, Missouri, and Lora attended Laredo Public Schools. When Lora was in the 10th grade, they moved to Blakesburg, Iowa and Lora attended and graduated from the Blakesburg School District in 1967. At both Schools she was very active in extracurricular activities including band, school plays, and played on the basketball team. After graduating from Blakesburg High School she attended and graduated from Iowa Technical Institute with a degree in office skills. She then worked for approximately two years at the Ottumwa, Iowa Public Library. Lora married David Ahee of Unionville, Iowa on June 22, 1969. (They recently privately celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary).
After they were married, the couple moved to Newton, Iowa where Lora was employed by The Maytag Company. She worked in the main office at Maytag and then transferred to the Research and Development building where she served as the Receptionist and Gatekeeper and reported directly to the Research and Development Vice President. In 1973 they moved to Lincoln, Nebraska where she worked for a subsidiary of Van C. Duling Travel Agency (Fun Tours, Inc.) scheduling and coordinating Bus tours throughout the United States.
In 1988 the family moved to West Monroe, Louisiana where she was employed by CenturyTel (now CenturyLink) in various departments including cellular telephone communications, the engineering department, marketing department, and other departments. In 2010 the couple moved to Alexandria, Virginia, a suburb of Washington D. C. Lora loved living there for a too short three years.
She was a CenturyTel retiree and resided in Calhoun, Louisiana at the time of her death.
Lora loved to travel and visited many areas of the United States including New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Diego California, Seattle, Washington, Atlantic City, New Jersey, Honolulu, Hawaii, Miami and Key West Florida, several Colorado resorts (during Summertime) and many other places including the Grand Canyon. Perhaps her favorite destinations were Myrtle Beach, South Carolina and Las Vegas, Nevada. She was active in the Ladies Auxiliary of Chapter # 331 Military Order of the Purple Heart of the USA (MOPH). The Couple were delegates to numerous MOPH National and State Conventions as well a serving in various State and National Officer positions. She enjoyed her grandchildren, playing golf, decorating her home (especially at Christmas) and sitting by their pool.
She had a wicked sense of humor and lived life on her terms.
She is survived by her husband, David of Calhoun, LA, sisters, Janna Pipes of Lees Summit, Missouri, Lisa Hatzenbuhler of Seattle Washington, and brother John M. Koetting of Agency Iowa. She is also survived by 3 children {Bradley J. (Jamie) Ahee of Calhoun Louisiana, Tracey L. Ahee of Quincy, Illinois, and Nicole Ahee of Downsville (Lake D’Arbonne area) , Louisiana} and 7 Grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be all nieces and nephews, including Bryan Pipes, Shawna Zimmerman, and Johnny Pipes of the Kansas City area; Anne Elizabeth Hudson and Sara Kenyon of Dallas, Texas, and Katy Garrison of Seattle, Washington, Ayla Smith of Mt. Pleasant, IA, John Koetting of Agency, IA, Bryan Ahee of Roseville, Illinois, Melinda Rozendaal, of New Sharon, Iowa, George Woodward of Lowden, Iowa, Garin Woodward of Amana, IA,(Cedar Rapids, Iowa) area, Todd Irwin of Solon, Iowa, Eric Irwin of Johnston (Des Moines, IA area), Iowa, Jocelyn Straight of Logan Iowa ( Council Bluffs, IA and Omaha, NE Area), and Jacob Ahee of Rio Hondo (Brownsville) area, Texas.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to M D Anderson Cancer Center in Houston TX, The Cancer Department of LSU Medical Center in Shreveport, LA, Burl McClure Post 0280 American Legion in Unionville, IA or its Auxiliary Unit, or to a charity of your choice.
Visitation will be 5:00 to7:00 p.m. at Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe, LA. Funeral services will be held at a later date at Albia Road Baptist Church in Ottumwa, IA with Pastor Jeremy Skinner officiating. Burial will be in the Unionville Iowa Cemetery. .
