Funeral services honoring the life of Lloyd Carnegie Coon, more affectionately referred to as “Honey”, 84, of West Monroe, will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, January 18, 2025, in the chapel of Mulhearn funeral home In West Monroe, Louisiana with Rev. Lance Otwell officiating. Interment will follow in the Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Calhoun Louisiana, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home. The visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Friday, January 17, 2025, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe.
Mr. Coon was born on October 13, 1940, in Shreveport, Louisiana and passed away on January 11, 2025.
Lloyd graduated from Ouachita Parish High School and soon joined the United States Navy in October 1957, where he was stationed in San Diego, California at the US Naval degaussing station. His time in the military was predominantly spent on Midway Island and Okinawa as a Sea Bee. Afterwards, he joined the Coast Guard. After his military career, he attended Northeast Louisiana State College, briefly where he later returned to earn his Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice. Mr. Coon was an active member of the Jaycee’s and a Boy Scout leader. He worked at Olinkraft until 1971, at which time he was hired by the West Monroe Police Department. He worked as a patrolman for four years before joining the Drug Strikeforce. Mr. Coon was voted Police Officer of the Year in 1976. The following year, he married the love of his life or “prize egg” as he liked to say. They celebrated their 47th wedding anniversary on December 17, 2024. Continuing his career, he retired from Exxon shipping, owned, and operated Bayou mobility, was a plant manager at Epco in Sterlington, then finally retired from the Ouachita Parish School Board after driving a school bus for eleven years.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Donna P Coon; daughters, Tanya Lynn Coon, Jennifer Anne Coon, and Dana Parker Flowers; and two sisters, Anita Pine and Judy Coon.
Pallbearers will be Philip Medaries, Michael Martinez, Randy Causey, Kevin McKinley, and Cody Payne.
